【 day 20 】

Hello newcomer, welcome to the 【 Warehouse 】.

Once you escape your elevator, you will find yourself here. It's strangely empty for a warehouse. Aside from the elevators you've come out of, there's nothing else here. In fact, the longer you look around, the stranger everything looks.

Every window has been bolted shut, with no way of removing the steel coverings. The only source of illumination comes from the florescent lights above. Along the walls are numerous amounts of surveillance cameras, watching every bit of movement and listening to the sounds of everyone and everything. Every door is locked up tight, with no clear way of opening them, and there's one giant door with a 9 painted on it. It's a rather strange place, and there seems to be a lot of people here, so go introduce yourselves?

For the "old-timers" and "becoming-old-timers", come meet your new fellow test subject and, oh, look! You can take another bath with that elevator open! With all the blood around you might want to wash up, filthy, rotten test subjects!

P R E M I S E

You're awake. You're not in your bed. Or in your room. Or even in your house. You don't know where you are or how you even got here. You're lying on a cold floor, and your head is pounding. It feels like you've been hit with a sledgehammer. You can barely move, but you push yourself up anyway, and look around. You're in an elevator, but the doors are shut tight. You throw your fists at the enclosed doors, shouting for help, but then you stop.

On your left wrist is a bracelet, one you have never seen before. It feels heavy and cold, and no matter how hard you tug at it, it refuses to come off. You flip it over, as if to remove a watch, but the other side of the bracelet is solid: no buckle, no clasp, nothing. A steel ring runs from the face of the bracelet and around your wrist, and you know that you won't be pulling it off any time soon.

Panic and frustration begin to mix, when suddenly, the elevator screen turns on, featuring a figure dressed in a heavy raincoat and bulky gas mask.

You try to question them, asking where you are, how you got here, who they are, but they don't reply to any of your questions. It only seems to be a recording.

"Consider this a privilege. You have been chosen."

A rasping voice speaks out of the gas mask, cold, mechanical, and distorted.

"You are going to participate in an experiment."

... ?

"The 【 Nonary Game 】."

"It is a game... where you will put your life on the line."

T H E E L E V A T O R

Every character, regardless of when they join the game, will begin in one of these elevators.

On the inside, it'll look like your average elevator, with a number of buttons, a LCD screen, an emergency hatch on top, and such on. However, characters will discover that pressing the buttons will not move the elevator, but rather only light up, and the doors are impossible to pull apart. The LCD screen will only turn on from an outside source, and characters will soon find that they're trapped inside. Only until Zero appears on the screen, will they learn how to leave. Every character will have to solve the puzzle of the elevator (which may change over time) within 9 minutes to leave, or face immediate danger - death.

Once characters reach the outside, it will be revealed that they were not in an actual elevator at all, but rather a room designed to resemble one. Instead of hanging in a shaft, it sits firmly on the ground in the corner of the warehouse with five other identical rooms. On the top of this "elevator" is the emergency hatch, accessible from the outside, and on the side of the doors is a card reader. Above the doors is a plate that reads "AMBIDEX ROOM".

T H E A M B I D E X R O O M

The AB Room is, in fact, the elevator. All voting for the AB Game will take place in this room and only here. The elevator doors will only open after everyone has entered through the Chromatic Doors for a round and when a team returns to scan their Ambidex Key Card, retrieved by solving their respective puzzle room. Once a door has been opened, an announcement will ring throughout the whole warehouse, saying the following:

"An Ambidex Gate has been open. Forty-five minutes remain until Ambidex Game polling closes."

Teams are allowed to open their AB Room before others, in an attempt to lock out other teams from voting, should they not make it to their own AB Room within the forty-five minute time limit. This voting process will take place on a large machine with a screen. Characters will be able to touch on the screen to input their vote, and once they press the 'START" button, the elevator doors will close. They will not reopen until the forty-five minutes pass.

T H E   W A R E H O U S E

This is the setting of Vivarium, a large warehouse with numerous amount of floors and doors. These floors and doors, however, are sealed off, but as time passes, they will be accessible to the characters to explore.

Every window in the warehouse has been bolted shut, with no way of removing the steel coverings. The only light source comes from the florescent lights, which dim at night, to indict the time of the day. Along the walls are also numerous amounts of surveillance cameras, watching the movement and listening to the sounds of everyone and everything. It's almost impossible to avoid their view, due to the large numbers, but if a character is lucky, they might find a blind spot.

Characters may access the Chromatic Doors, the cafeteria, the sleeping dorms, AB Rooms, and the number 9 door here.

T H E   N U M B E R   9   D O O R

This is your character's way out of this hellhole, but to access it, they must meet specific requirements.

Only those with a BP of 63 or higher will be able to open the door and pass through. They will have to swipe their bracelet past the lever's sensor, and if they have the right amount of BP, the LCD screen will change from "LOCK" to "OPEN". By pulling the lever, the door will finally open, allowing the winner to pass through and leave. However, the door will only remain open for 9 seconds, so if the character spends too much time getting through, it will close and will not reopen for that character for another whole three days.

If a character with less than 63 BP tries to swipe their bracelet against the sensor, it will beep and remain locked. If they try to go through the door when it's open, the bracelet will automatically recognize this as a violation of the rules and kill the wearer.

T H E   C A F E T E R I A

Upon reaching 9 BP, characters will be granted access into the cafeteria. Here, they can finally eat, but the only food available will be low quality food: gruel, cold canned meals, and thawed out frozen food. It may not be delicious or nutritious, but it will keep your character fed and give them enough energy to get through the Nonary Game.

Upon reaching 36 BP, characters may now switch over to higher quality food, such as a hot bowl of soup, fresh fruits and vegetables, and cooked meat. They may choose to continue eating gruel, if they really wish to, but they are not allowed to share their higher quality food with characters with less than 36 BP, or there will be consequences.

The same rule applies for attempting to bring food out of the cafeteria to share with those with less than 9 BP. All food must remain in the cafeteria and nowhere else.

Those with less than 9 BP may not enter the cafeteria, and may be killed if they attempt to.

As of Day 19 and the conclusion of The Heart of The Matter event , near the doors of the cafeteria is a chalk outline of a body, although this body is missing its left hand and wrist, along with a portion of its head. Heading a bit further into the cafeteria, there will be an outline of a hand. As for the walls near the door, it is splattered with dry blood, that Calhoun has not bothered to wipe.

T H E   D O R M S

Once a character has reached 27 BP, access to the sleeping quarters will be available. In here, there are numerous amounts of bunk beds, with hard mattress and thin blankets. While it may be uncomfortable at first, when it is compared sleeping on the cold hard floor of the warehouse with nothing, it will soon be considered a paradise.

Just like the cafeteria, characters with less than 27 BP may not enter the dorms and may be killed if they do.

T H E   L O U N G E

As of Day 4, characters have gained access to the lounge, located on the first floor of the warehouse, allowing them to enter and exit whenever they please.

The lounge is a resting area for characters, with a TV, magazines, video games, and movies. However, characters will actually find it rather difficult to "relax" here, for the couch is ungodly uncomfortable, the movies consist of either scientific experiments or things too awful to watch, the video games are poorly made and broken, and the magazines are all scientific garble. Nevertheless, it is much better than the warehouse lobby.

T H E   G A R D E N

As of Day 26, characters have gained access to the garden, located on the second floor of the warehouse, allowing them to enter and exit whenever they please.

Inside, the garden is shaped like a dome, with the roof of the garden being made up of grids with screens depicting a blue sky during daylight hours and a starry night during the evening. These grids double as sunlamps, as during the "day", they will provide warmth and vitamin D for characters.

There is plant life in the garden, such as grass, trees, and flowers, but there are no fruits or vegetables growing. None of the plants are edible, and while there is also a small waterfall, creating a small creek, the water is much too cold to be used as a shower.

T H E   G Y M

As of Day 54, characters have gained access to the gym, located on the second floor of the warehouse, allowing them to enter and exit whenever they please.

There is a strong musty smell in the air, a mixture of sweat and unwashed wrestling mats. There are also exercise equipment, such as treadmills and bicycles, but everything is much like second-hand items one might find at garage sales or thrift stores. On the mat in East side of the room, there stain in the corner that resembles blood, and with the collection of dumbbells, the five pound one has a stain on the end that also looks like blood. It looks like it's been there for a while...

G E N E R A L I N F O

Upon arriving in the Nonary Game, every character will find a bracelet attached to their left wrists.

These bracelets are extremely thick, and no matter how hard they try, they will not budge. Upon further inspection, they do not have a visible clasp for the characters to undo. The bottom of the bracelets are smooth and simple, while on the front resembles a watch.

All bracelets have an LCD screen, which will display different numbers, words, and colours, depending on the round and game. On the side are two buttons, which may be pressed at any time. Only when both buttons are pressed simultaneously, the LCD screen will change to feature a timer.

Zero will soon appear in a recording to explain the functions of the bracelet, but most importantly, its purpose: these bracelets enforce the rules of the Nonary game and will severely punish anyone who breaks these rules.

The rules of the bracelet are simple:

Do not damage or remove the bracelet.

Do not enter a Chromatic Door that is not your team's colour.

Do not enter rooms you do not have access to.

You must partake in every round by going through a Chromatic Door.

No violence is permitted against Zero or any of his servants.

It is forbidden to destroy the surveillance cameras.

Any rules broken are punishable by death.

In short, Zero has made these bracelets to act as both the judge and executioner for the Nonary Game. It will ensure that everyone will follow these rules and kill anyone who breaks them.

Zero will then go on to explain the mechanics of the bracelets, especially the text on the LCD screen and what they represent.

M E C H A N I C S

BRACELET POINTS: The number represents the bracelet points (BP) the wearer currently has. Everyone starts off with 3 BP and this number can increase and decrease by playing the Ambidex Game (AB Game), or depending on their performance during the puzzle rooms.

By reaching certain numbers, your character will obtain rewards, escape the warehouse, or die. These levels are as following:

≥ 18	Medical Supplies - BP deductible
≥ 27	Access to the sleeping dorms
≥ 36	High quality food
≥ 45	Any one item of their choice - single use
≥ 54	"Get Out of Death" card - single use
≥ 63	Escape

PAIR: This refers to the wearer's status in the next round, and you can either have "PAIR" or "SOLO". With "PAIR", characters are to be partnered up with a person with the same colour and status as them. These two will work together for a single round and vote together in the AB Game. The amount of BP they earn or lose will affect both players. When going through a Chromatic Door, both "PAIRS" must enter with the same coloured "SOLO".

SOLO: This refers to the wearer's status in the next round, and you can either have "PAIR" or "SOLO". With "SOLO", the character will work alone for a single round and vote alone in the AB Game. Whatever amount they earn or lose in BP, it will only affect them. When going through a Chromatic Door, the "SOLO" must enter with the same coloured "PAIRS".

COLOURS: The colour of the BP and status will change with every round that passes. Characters with the same coloured text will become one team for the following round. This coloured team will then pass through the Chromatic Door of their colour. The colours so far are red, green, blue, magenta, yellow, and cyan. As teams advance through more floors and Chromatic Doors, the number of colours will increase.

TIMER: When pressing both side buttons simultaneously, a timer counting down will replace the normal LCD screen for a few seconds. This timer represents how much time is left before the next set of Chromatic Doors open. Once the timer hits 0, these doors open and will stay open for 5 minutes. Anyone who goes through a door that is not their colour, or is outside when the doors close, will be punished.

D E A T H

When a character has 0 BP or lower, or breaks a rule, the LCD screen will change into a bright pink skull, indicating that the bracelet has changed its role from a judge to an executioner.

On the underside of the bracelet are two needles: one for Soporil β and the other for Tubocurarine. First, the bracelet will inject the Soporil β, an anesthetic, which will put the character to sleep. After nine minutes later, Tubocurarine will be injected, which will stop the character’s respiratory system and kill them.

Sometimes, the watch is known for injecting the Tubocurarine first, then the Soporil β, but only in extreme moments when the punishment must fit the crime.

AU/MEMORY LOSS EFFECTS

How does being in a modern day world like ours or experiencing memory loss affect your character? Any personality changes that result from this AU should be mentioned here. We understand with an AU, there will be slight differences from canon, but your character should not be taking a complete 180 degree turn on who they are. Their core personality should remain the same.

SAMPLE:

We accept two forms of samples, and players can use either one.

1) You can submit a thread. This thread must be within the last six months. It does not have involve memory loss or in this AU. It can be a thread with the canonical version of your character. However, all threads must have a minimum of 5 comments from you, and must showcase your character's personality. Of course, you can go over the minimum amount if needed, but we require 5 comments at the very least.

2) You can write a tag in response to any one of the prompts in our test drive. While it does not matter whether it is in first-person or third-person, we would like to see the character's thoughts and why they're acting the way they are. This sample must have a minimum of 250 words.

QUEUE:

The maximum number of characters in this game at one time is 12, and if we are at that number you will be put in the queue. PERSONALITY: This is where you demonstrate your understanding of the character. This is where you should mention their strengths, weaknesses, characteristics, goals, etc. Focus on writing your character's personality as seen in canon, not how they will be in this AU, and you may refer to points in canon and any character development. There is no word limit on this, but generally, anything less than two~three paragraphs is not enough.
AU DETAILS: Briefly describe your character's AU in approximately 300 to 500 words. You don't have to be extremely detailed, but please go into enough depth on what your character is now doing and the kind of life they're leading. Please keep in mind that characters must be in an AU that is similar to our world, with our laws of physics. 
AU/MEMORY LOSS EFFECTS: How does being in a modern day world like ours or experiencing memory loss affect your character? Any personality changes that result from this AU should be mentioned here. We understand with an AU, there will be slight differences from canon, but your character should not be taking a complete 180 degree turn on who they are. Their core personality should remain the same.
SAMPLE: We accept two forms of samples, and players can use either one.

1) You can submit a thread. This thread must be within the last six months. It does not have involve memory loss or in this AU. It can be a thread with the canonical version of your character. However, all threads must have a minimum of 5 comments from you, and must showcase your character's personality. Of course, you can go over the minimum amount if needed, but we require 5 comments at the very least.

2) You can write a tag in response to any one of the prompts in our <a href="http://memearium.dreamwidth.org/288.html">test drive</a>. While it does not matter whether it is in first-person or third-person, we would like to see the character's thoughts and why they're acting the way they are. This sample must have a minimum of 250 words.

QUEUE: The maximum number of characters in this game at one time is 12, and if we are at that number you will be put in the queue.
